MILWAUKEE, WI, October 19, 2018 – The Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation is proud to announce that it has awarded $135,000 and 35 grants to charities throughout the Midwest, including $22,500 for six Milwaukee organizations so that they can continue providing support and non-profit work for their communities. Organizations receiving grants in 2018 include:

The Lad Lake
https://www.ladlake.org/ program offers work experience for children at risk of incarceration or in trouble with the law. The program provides work experience to high-risk children so that they can build trade skills and create career opportunities.

United Methodist Children’s Services http://umcs-wi.org/ serves the depressed Washington Park area of Milwaukee, providing housing, childcare, and community resources for families in poverty.

The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin http://www.arcw.org/ helps 3,500 patients across Wisconsin, providing preventative care, screenings, housing, and medical care, serving 1,200 individuals in the Milwaukee location. New services include Skype sessions for emotional, mental, and therapeutic services.

Teen Challenge Wisconsin http://www.teenchallengeonline.com/ is a faith-based program to help adults struggling with addiction.

YMCA at Pabst Farms http://www.ymcaatpabstfarms.org/ partners with local middle and high schools to help students learn leadership skills through community service, including roadside cleanup, mentoring programs, and group projects.

Meta House http://metahouse.org/ has provided women’s drug and alcohol addiction treatment since 1963, helping treat addiction as well as helping to teach life and parenting skills to those who need help. Children are welcome into the program so that women can get help without leaving their family behind.

Since its inception in 2002, the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation has donated nearly $1.9 million to various philanthropic organizations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Each year, the foundation donates to the communities within GFC’s territories, staying true to founder Gordon Flesch’s mission to support the communities where GFC’s employees and customers live and work.

Unlike most corporate giving programs, the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation is managed entirely by company associates. Each year associates nominate organizations close to their hearts and close to their communities. The foundation’s board of directors reviews nominations and selects award recipients.

“Gordon Flesch wanted to make sure that his company was engaged in the communities we serve,” said Cheryl Halverson, President of the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation. “All of these charitable organizations were selected by GFC employees, so they are very near and dear to us, and we look forward to see how each organization will use their grant to continue their great work.”

“We are very grateful to each grant recipient and the wonderful services they offer our communities - from family support services to community centers,” said Jill James, Vice President of the Gordon Flesch Charitable Foundation. “We are consistently humbled and impressed by the tremendous work we see each organization continue to do each year.”
